HUGUES ROBERTS

Hugues Roberts started the flute aged seven, and began a Batchelor of Music in 2011 at the

University of Canterbury in his hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand.


Hugues spent four years as principal flute of the New Zealand Youth Orchestra before moving to

London in 2013 to study at the Royal Academy of Music under Paul Edmund-Davies, Kate Hill, Karen Jones and Michael Cox, graduating in 2016.  In 2015, he toured New Zealand with his chamber group, Mimosa Ensemble, and in 2016 began postgraduate study at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying with Laura Jellicoe

and Katherine Baker.


Competition achievements include 2nd Prize at the Gisborne International Music Competition and winner of the New Zealand Woodwind Competition, tertiary category.
