Each season the SSO gives a series of eight concerts in Stockport’s Town Hall Ballroom covering a wide repertoire and frequently undertaking challenging and adventurous works with international conductors and soloists. About 120 musicians play regularly in the orchestra though seldom at the same time!
The orchestra has long been committed to providing opportunities to young musicians, including conductors, and Stockport International Young Musicians Competition is a natural development of the orchestra’s ethos. The aim is to make it an increasingly important fixture in the cultural life of Stockport and the nation’s classical music calendar.
David is principal bass of the SSO and organiser of the SIYMC competition. He is also responsible for putting together the orchestra’s season each year
Jo plays viola and is Secretary of the orchestra, responsible for its general running and administration
Lesley is the orchestra’s elected Chair as well as an oboist and cor anglais player
